The Board members of the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants are pleased to introduce Xushu Ma as new AHCI Candidate.
Recently described as ‘The Best Watchmaker in China’, and with complications such as a three-dimensional double axis tourbillon behind him, Xushu Ma’s odyssey has seen the triumph of a pure and natural talent over the adversity imposed by an unflinching political system which seemed certain to suppress the abilities of it’s most gifted citizens.
Acquiring his knowledge of horology through fervently reading old books on the subject, and occasionally getting to work on repairing watches belonging to local businessmen and politicians, Xushu Ma learned his skills the hard way, and a world away from enjoying the luxury of the availability of equipment which is standard in any formal modern training environment. To be recognised today as a master of watchmaking is a reflection on the determination of this remarkable man.
Proposed to the Board by members Marco Lang and Marc Jenni, the members of the AHCI extend a warm welcome to Xushu Ma and we wish him every success in the years to come.
