On the occasion of their recent General Assembly on March 29, 2014, the Board of the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants were pleased to announce the elevation of Kiev-based watch maker Valerii Danevych from candidate to full member of the AHCI.
A master joiner by trade, in 2005 Valerii took his talent for precision woodcraft to another level and at the same time indulged his fascination with mechanical watch making by creating his timepieces almost entirely out of wood. Such was the standard of excellence and innovation bis work came to the attention of the AHCI and he was proposed as a candidate member in 2012, exhibiting for the first time on the AHCI booth at Baselworld that same year.
Fully self taught with no previous formal watchmaking experience and using his unique approach Valerii undertook to embark on a wildly ambitious project, working with no less than eight types of wood and taking some 1800 hours in the making to create his magnificent Retrograde; a flying tourbillon with retrograde minutes and hours.
Upholding the highest horlogic standards in independent watch making Valerii Danevych demonstrates a unique innovative spirit and a talent found only among the very finest watchmakers in the world and his work perfectly represents the values of the AHCI.
The members of the AHCI extend a warm welcome to Valerii and would like to wish him a long and fulfilling career as a master of his profession.
